His real name was Vladimir Ulyanov; Lenin was his party pseudonym. He was born on April 10th (22), 1870 in Simbirsk (currently Ulyanovsk). His father was Ilya Nikolayevich, the inspector of national schools, mother Maria Aleksandrovna. He was married to Nadezhda Konstantinovna Krupskaya, who also was a prominent state and party figure.

Stalin, Joseph Vissarionovich

Joseph Dzhugashvili (Stalin) ran the country from 1924 to 1953.

His real name was Joseph Dzhugashvili; Stalin was his party pseudonym. He was born on December 6th (18), 1878, or officially on December 9th (21), 1879, in Gori, Tiflis province. His party nickname was “Stalin” and “Koba” – that was the name of the noble hero from the novel Particide by A.Kazbegi, which Stalin liked a lot in his youth. His father was Vissarion Dzhugashvili, and his mother – Ekaterina (Ketevan) Geladze. Stalin was married twice: to Ekaterina Svanidze and Nadezhda Alliluyeva.

Khrushchev, Nikita Sergeyevich

Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev ran the country from 1953 to 1964.

He was born on April 5th (17), 1894 in the village of Kalinovka, Kursk province. His father was Sergey Nikanorovich, his mother Ksenia Ivanovna. He was married twice: to Efrosinya Ivanovna Pisareva and Nina Petrovna Kukharchuk. First Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee from 1953 to 1964, Chairman of USSR Council of Ministers from 1958 to 1964. Hero of the Soviet Union. Three times Hero of Socialist Labour. The first winner of the Shevchenko Award.

Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev ran the USSR from 1964 to 1982.

Leonid Brezhnev was born on January 1st, 1907 (December 19th, 1906) in Kamenskoye (currently, the city of Dneprodzerzhinsk), Ekaterinoslavskaya province. His father’s name was Ilya Yakovlevich, mother Natalia Denisovna. His spouse’s name was Viktoria Petrovna. The First Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee since 1964 (Secretary General since 1966) and Chairman of the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Soviet from 1960 to 1964, and from 1977 to 1982. Four times Hero of the Soviet Union, Hero of Socialist Labour.

Yuri Vladimirovich Andropov ran the country from 1982 through 1984.

He was born on June 2nd (15), 1914 at Nagutskaya station, Stavropol region. Soviet statesman and politician, Secretary General of the CPSU Central Committee from 1982 to 1984, Chairman of the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Soviet from 1983 to 1984, Chairman of the USSR KGB from 1967 to 1982. His father was Vladimir Andropov, telegraph operator at a railway station, mother – Evgeniya Karlovna. His spouse’s name was Nina Ivanovna.
